Avicii at Consol Energy Center – Pittsburgh, PA (June 14th 2012)

Wow. Honestly, after seeing Avicii perform at Stage AE in Pittsburgh and having live streamed his Ultra performance I didnt think I could see anything from Avicii that would really take me away. Hearing that he was performing his first ever Arena tour and would perform in Pittsburgh at the Consol Energy Center I knew I couldnt miss the opportunity, especially with the cost being only $10 a ticket.

I had seen Avicii when he performed in Pittsburgh in January and had heard sets he’d previously played and I kind of anticipated his set to be similar just because his tendency had been that his sets didnt vary much and though his production is amazing his DJing hasn’t been to the levels of others. After seeing his performance in Pittsburgh though if you ever have the opportunity to see him perform I highly recommend you do. Lived above and beyond all expectations and he played a long set which I was pleased to see considering how short his set had been in January in Pittsburgh.

First the stage for the performance was a giant white head which displayed some of the craziest visual effects. At one point the face melted off, another it was a collection of singing mouths and even at another time he showed footage of him on rollercoasters at EDC Las Vegas. I think the most memorable moment was when the top of the head was removed and floated out, DJ booth and all, over the middle of the audience and lowered so that he was performing literally ten feet above our heads. He also played a more Tim Berg experimental portion which was a pleasant surprise because I had expected him to play a lot of fan favorites but he hit us with tons of new IDs he’d been working on. I can’t stress enough, if you have the opportunity go see him perform, this arena tour is completely legit. It actually made me upset to know they almost couldn’t sell the show out but with school being out of session for the summer and many families away at the beach it’s expected. Opening the venue to 16 and over was nice to allow a younger crowd the opportunity to see the show as well.

Check out a bit of the performance here and check out upcoming tour dates for a city near you here.
