If you want to see a star in the making, please please please get on the Ariana Grande bandwagon, I know I am. Obviously, many have heard her on the radio within the past few weeks for her song with Mac Miller entitled “The Way”, which has peaked at Number 9 on the Billboard Top 100.
Last night she did her first late night performance on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show along with Mac Miller with The Roots as her accompanying band, which should be considered a huge complement and accomplishment.
19-year-old Ariana got her start on the Nickelodeon channel doing the show Victorious and was so well-liked that she has a spin-off show Sam & Cat that is premiering soon. However, this is not just another Nickelodeon Pop experiment. This girl has the vocals to back it up and many have no problem saying her range reminds them of a Mariah Carey-type performer. Mac Miller definitely could have had his fingerprint on a lot of young artists with his current status in the music industry, so that fact that he chose her definitely speaks to her musical ability.
Her debut album Daydreamin’ is due out late August, and she is bound to blow up, so get on the bandwagon now before there’s no room left.
There’s been a high anticipation for the return of the the French electronic duo of Daft Punk. Well after their 15 second TV ad on SNL earlier this month there has been an album release date confirmed. According to iTunes, their new album titled Random Access Memories is set to release on May 21, 2013 in the United States. Stay tuned for more news regarding the legends.
It has been quiet some time since we last posted about Bombs and Bombs, since he posted his Numb & Young EP. However, he is back again with a new track for everyone to enjoy. “I Will” has an electro pop sound with great vocals done by B&B himself. With the heavy bass line and plenty of drums this tune is going to be on repeat. And B&B is giving it you for free, so download and enjoy!
Yes FOB, the band that pretty much wrote the soundtrack to my teen years is back and my how far they’ve come. After a bit of a hiatus they’ve announced an upcoming album and dropped this song on us. It’s very different from they’re old sound, but i’m not gonna lie i’m digging the massive sound it takes on. I’m amped to see where they go from here. Oh yeah and did I mention none other than 2 CHAINZ is featured in this video?! Madness. I love it.
It’s been way too long since I last checked up on my favorite mashup artists. The duo from Chicago has already dropped one insane party starting track and one super chill track in 2013.
The first, “Go!” is a bit different than the traditional mashups the Pandas usually produce. Instead, they give us a bootleg that features the vocals from NeYo’s “Let’s Go,” the beautiful build up from Chuckie and Promise Land’s “Breaking Up,” and finally the nasty electro drop from Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes collab “Here We Go.” All three combine to form a rager trifecta. Keep this one in your arsenal for that next pregame.
The second is a chilled out mashup that combines the Kendrick Lamar hit “Swimming Pools (Drank)” with Pierce Fulton’s “West Egg.” The result is a great cure for a Sunday hangover. Enjoy.
While you’re at it, take a look at The White Panda’s podcast series: Panda Waves. Epsiodes 1, 2, and 3 are out now. Available as free downloads via SoundCloud (HERE) or as podcasts through iTunes.
2012 has been unbelievable year for music. WIth the EDM scene exploding here in America and superstars of all genres getting recognition it has been a great year all around. Now CMB is big on the EDM side of music and I, myself as a writer for the site, am a huge fan of EDM so my top 5 originally was just going to be just EDM tracks but I wanted to choose songs that pertained to memorable moments of my life in 2012 not just song I like. These tracks are really not in order of one being better then the other, just as a whole these 5 songs were memorable to 2012 for me. So without further a due here is my, RMcSpedon’s, personal top 5 tracks of 2012.
5. “Drunk” – Ed Sheeran
Before I even say anything else, if you haven’t got your hands on his album “+” yet you better check it out because every song off his first album ever is amazing. Most people know his song “A Team” but thats not my top song off his album. This song “Drunk” definitely was played on a lot at the end of a drunk night this year for me. Ed Sheeran’s lyrics are so relatable and I can literally listen to his whole album straight through any day.
4. “MOTA” - Flosstradamus
This track is fire! When Floss came out with his EP I fell in love with this track. Saw them this summer at Mad Decent Block Party and they know how to get the place going. The reason why I put this on my top 5 is because this track got me obsessed with Trap music. You can’t tell me when you hear this track it doesn’t make you wanna break out dancing.
3. “Take a Walk” – Passion Pit
Made In America Festival, that is all I think about when I hear this song. Passion Pit played in Philly at Made in America and literally had everyone frolicking around the Ben Franklin Parkway. One of my happiest moments of 2012 without a doubt. Any song of their new album “Gossamer” is great.
Again, MADE IN AMERICA is all i think when I hear this track. I know this just was recently release, however Afrojack dropped this at the DJ tent at Made In America and without a doubt I have to say his set was probably the best set I have heard this entire year. I had my doubts about Afrojack before, but after seeing him perform he is unbelievably talented. Another happy moment of 2012 that I will never forget.
1. “Clarity” – Zedd
Zedd blew up this year when he dropped his album “Clarity” and his song named after the album title blew me away. The vocals by Foxes give me the chills and the lyrics bring so much memories of 2012 to mind, lots of good memories and some bad. Regardless love this song and will always remind me of 2012.
Its just about that time, no not Christmas, no not New Years, but well, technically New Years I guess, because we are about to be bombarded with a slew of best of lists as well as year end mashups. Ugh, this category of music used to be pretty good, but then people started mashing too many songs together with no real purpose. Anyways, here are the two biggest mashups so far. The first is from DJ Earworm, who started this trend of year end mixes. Not gonna lie, I think this is his best one yet. The songs actually work together, the lyrics make a real song, and the transitions are wonderful. I highly advise any fan of radio music to check this one out.
Second, we have the 2012 installment of Pop Danthology, which bold informs us that it mashed up 50+ pop songs. Geez, 50+, really, and this thing is 8 minutes long? This song is a perfect example of why mashups get a bad name. One, its too long, like way too long. Also, it just doesnt sound like the same song throughout, just a bunch of minimashups strung together to make a huge one. Its not to say that this mix doesnt have its moments, but it isnt a stunning as Earworms.
If you liked these mashups, be sure to check back for Part 2, some time later this week as we highlight some of the mashups from lesser known djs. Unless the world ends and all that shit, then yah know, we’ll be dead.
