One thing Hoodie Allen has never been afraid to be is different. And in the past week or so he has really done something most rappers would avoid like the plague… acoustic renditions and ACTUALLY SINGING their songs.
Yes, the rapper has decided to step into this new sphere and is really giving his songs new life. Last week he started this trend with a video for arguably his most popular song “No Interruption” off of All American:
Today he released his Acoustic Cover of “Two Lips” which is a mash up of his songs “Two Lips” and “Casanova”:
He really takes some of his more upbeat songs and gives them an almost haunting feel, something that is so relaxed and low-key. This is a huge leap of faith for Hoodie, a leap that depends on his fans being willing to hear something different and on his vocal chops. Thankfully, his fans seems to be responding positively and his notoriety is only going up.
As a “Thank You” to his fans, he is releasing an EP on iTunes August 13th called Americoustic which will be all acoustic renditions of songs from All American. However, he is releasing the album for free download simultaneously off of soundcloud, jumping on this new trend where people can download it if they want, but those who want to support the artist will buy the EP.
This is something very off the beaten path and something that people should really appreciate. This is not something he was asked to do (I think). This is just a way for Hoodie to really hear what his fans have to say and what they like and running with it. I think this will really help bolster his persona and maybe push him into another echelon of musicians, not just rappers. Having diversity is key, and this is just another avenue Hoodie Allen can pursue in the future.
With their upcoming acoustic tour set to take place Above and Beyond never expected themselves to perform at the legendary open air Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California. After such an astounding and warm reception from the fans, the trio have added a second show at the legendary venue. October 12th and 13th will be an incredibly magic day for the residents of Southern Califonia. Check out this incredible and magic acoustic recording of Love is Not Enough below!
Matisyahu is back with the acoustic session of his latest album “Spark Seeker”. Essentially a much more chilled out version with a much more intimate feel. The raw feel of these tracks have an incredible relaxing effect. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favorite EP’s coming out during the winter months. Definitely grab this when it drops tomorrow.
In case you missed it, here is the video of the German producer Zedd performing a beautiful acoustic rendition of his song “Clarity.” Zedd shows us that not only is he skilled at producing, but that he is also a very talented pianist. Foxes’ vocals are even more beautiful live (if that’s possible) and check out the background for Alvin Risk providing some backup!
I think this occasion perfectly illustrates the ever closing gap between EDM and the mainstream music culture. It’ll be interesting to see if this leads to more DJ’s and producers pushing to get their work on network TV programs.
As a bonus, here is the official video for “Clarity” that Zedd released a few weeks back…there’s a surprise at the end if you’re patient.
As most of you guys know, we at Catch My Bass like to introduce our fans to emerging artists from our local areas. Someone who you should definitely hear about is Wyatt Duino. He currently is in Tucson, Arizona attending the University of Arizona but is originally from California. He has a very interesting musical taste which creates a unique blend in his genre. He mixes his R&B-type vocals with a sort of Acoustic Pop-Alternative, but dabbles in some tracks that can be more Electro/Deep Bass. Essentially, he is very unique artist, one that cannot be easily defined.
As an introduction to him as an artist, we have a video of Wyatt doing an Acoustic Cover to Ne-Yo’s “So Sick”
Be sure to check back here for updates regarding his debut album, which should be available on iTunes early 2013. Also, look out for a music video and a more in-depth interview with Catch My Bass in the coming weeks.
Just the other day I was saying how I didn’t really think that Don’t You Worry Child should have many remixes because of how monumental a track it was and how I would’ve found it difficult to truly capture the beauty of the track properly in a remix. Well, I was wrong. DSharp does this incredible cover that is sure to take your breathe away. Check it out and grab the download for yourself for free!
Do yourself a favor and start listening to Cris Cab, the guy makes amazing music. This song, which was released last summer, is reintroduced with some help from Wyclef and a dope verse from Big Sean. When acoustic guitar is mixed with a catchy hook, some sick lyrics and a feature from one of the hottest rappers in the game, its inevitable that the song will be a hit, so check it out!
