Preview: Deadmau5 ft. Kat Von D – Satellite

Scree-at-2.56.39-AM

So the Mau5meister himself gave us a preview of a new collaboration he’s working on with none other than his bride-to-be Kat Von D. It’s almost a completely new sound for the infamous producer and honestly I feel like its absolutely beautiful. The piano/violin intro coupled with KvD’s vocals are entrancing. Then in comes the deep glitchy bass line which almost seems to whisk you away on some sort of industrial cloud. I’m so amped to hear this sort of cross-genre music, especially coming from such a solid producer as Deadmau5. Definitely need to keep your eyes peeled for whats yet to come. Peep the track below and as always, rage on my friends.

With the beautiful vocals and absolutely amazing synth lines this song throws at you I can 100% guarantee the crowd will go wild every time. This track is such a standout production I can’t even begin to explain my love for it. You know what, all I can say really is just hit play and I promise the music will speak for itself. CHECK IT. Rage On My Friends.

Oh, and my buddy Mako is offering it for free. ;)

So I stumbled upon this track searching around for music for my radio show yesterday and the second I hit play I knew it was going to be massive. The sheer quality in the production of this song is phenomenal. The vocals and melodies are entrancing. I can without a doubt certify this as a MUST DOWNLOAD. Luckily for everyone, they’ve offered the track on the above EP thats available for free on Henrix’s Facebook page. So download, jam out, and Rage On My Friends

Show Review: Knife Party at Pacha in NYC, NY – 3/15/13

IMG_3233So this was my first time seeing Knife Party live and I can tell you that if you have not seen them yet, then it is an absolute priority of yours to get to their next show. The absolute unreal ability the duo of Rob Swire & Gareth McGrillen have to mix the most incredible songs into a show is phenomenal. They have the ability to just whisk you away to far-off places with their music and then drop you down into a party of nothing but BASS. From their original tracks such as “Internet Friends” and “Centipede”  all the way to SHM – “Dont You Worry Child” and even Missy Elliot’s “Work It”!  They just have such a talent that comes with the experience behind their work that is unmatched. My favorite part of the night came is tied between the dropping of their remix of Porter Robinson’s “Unison” track (my favorite song) and when Gareth popped a bottle of champagne on the crowd JUST as “Internet Friends” dropped. UNREAL. The crowd was so insanely excited for them to come on and they definitely did not disappoint. I would even go as far to say they BLEW AWAY my expectations. Just massive. Easily cracking my top 5 favorite artists to see live. I literally CANNOT wait to see them again and I highly recommend ALL of you go check them out asap.

p.s. More Pictures & Videos to come ;) IMG_3234

Also BIG shout out to the people over at their PR department for giving us an opportunity to cover them!

Rage On My Friends!

Artist Interview: KDrew

A few weeks ago we had the privilege to sit down with DJ/Producer KDrew before his set at Soundgarden Hall. He was about to go on before OWSLA’s Seven Lions and KDrew had the time to sit down and talk with Catch My Bass (CMB). It was a pleasure to meet KDrew and we had a great sit down interview with him! Check it out!

CMB: How does it feel to be here at SoundGarden tonight in Philly?

KDrew:  Honestly, it feels absolutely amazing. I just moved across the country to Colorado so I’m enjoying the fact that I’m back on the East Coast. Being in Philly is especially awesome because it’s pretty much my backyard. Doing everything with House of Hearts has been great. I did one show with HoH last summer and it was crazy and now this is even bigger.

CMB: Where did you start out DJing?

KDrew: What not everyone knows is that my father owns a DJ company to this day. When I was 13-15 he would bring me on his gigs and I was sitting there with a Denon controller mixing in Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson and stuff like that. I’ve been DJing for a long time but I think now it’s more of a producers market. If you want to be a really great DJ now you need to produce your own records. As far as the art goes and being a DJ in the entertainment industry, I’ve been doing it for a pretty long time now.

CMB: If you could listen to one album, complete album, for the rest of your life, which would it be?

KDrew: Coldplay Mylo Xyloto, hands down my favorite album ever. Honestly if it was another one after that it would be Viva La Vida by Coldplay because that is my second favorite album ever.

CMB: Who is the most influential DJ/Producer you’ve met to date?

CMB Writers, Ryan & Marcel, with KDrew (center)

KDrew: Oh, man that’s a tough one…honestly it’s one of those things especially with the EDM community it’s so fast paced you don’t really get a chance to sit down and meet everybody that you’d like. If there was anybody that I could say, I would probably say Flux Pavillion. I actually did Loaded Festival with him right here down at Festival Pier. What people don’t know is that he’s so musically inclined, he does band remakes on his records and stuff. Meeting another true musician, someone who has infiltrated the EDM scene, somebody that has been such a positive influence on my career is awesome.

CMB: Alright so on that note, if you could work with anyone, who would it be?

KDrew: Honestly, one of my first choices would be Chris Martin from Coldplay.

CMB: Yea, I could definitely see that!

KDrew: Yea, he would definitely be my first choice. He takes simple chords and turns them into absolute symphonies.

CMB: Without a doubt. Alright, so if you had to, how would you describe your music style?

KDrew:  I feel at this point I don’t really have a specific musical style per se. I went from R&B to pop, and then to EDM and I feel like my musical style is always evolving. It’s really just whatever I’m feeling with at the moment, that’s pretty much it.

CMB: I dig it, so what song of yours would you say is personally you’re favorite.

KDrew: I would have to say “Circles” just because it has a more deep-rooted meaning to it. Growing up, doing music at a young age, I would get picked on from time to time so “Circles” was my requiem and was the type of record that I could get all that emotion out. So yea, I would say “Circles” is the one because people can relate to it a little bit more, especially with bullying being such an issue nowadays.

CMB: I’m not gonna lie that was one of my favorites too man. Alright, so in 5 years, how would you like to see yourself?

KDrew: Honestly, I would love to see myself incorporating more of a live aspect into my sets. I would love to incorporate more of my own live vocals and more real musicians into everything. I just kinda feel with EDM it’s going to get a bit monotonous with the same thing as far as DJ setsand I want to bring something different to the table. I want to bring that real live aspect to EDM.

CMB: Definitely man, show off the true musicianship. Alright, so one last thing. If you could leave us with a quote of your own or someone else. Like something you live by or just like, what would it be?

KDrew:  It’s typical to say “If you believe in yourself, you can do whatever you want to do,” but it’s one of those things with life in general, that if you just do what you believe in and you are just completely transparent to everything around you and you have a goal or a vision, you could 100% accomplish that thing. You just have to remain committed to living your dream.

CMB: Alright, awesome stuff man. Well, thank you very much for meeting with us. Can’t wait to see you rock it out there!

KDrew: No problem man, thanks for coming!

Be sure to check out KDrew’s Soundcloud to see what he has out, new and old!
