Sad Day for Daft Punk Fans: Romanthony, vocalist for “One More Time”, Dead at 45

Romanthony

The buzz around Daft Punk recently could not be any bigger. After the leak of Random Access Memories hit the internet, many were praising their new funky sound. Not only that, but Kanye West went on Saturday Night Live last night and and sang his new song “Black Skinhead” which was co-produced by Daft Punk. Today, one of the most important people in Daft Punk’s success has passed.

Romanthony, a American DJ, passed away today at the age of 43. Although he is not credited, he is the vocalist on Daft Punk’s most popular song “One More Time” from Discovery (he also did vocals for “Too Long”). Although the synthy vocals could have made it really anyone, he has a huge place in the history of Daft Punk and fans should take note.

Daft Punk – SNL (Basic Physics Remix) [FREE DL]

artworks-000044105053-crpwaa-t500x500I’m not usually a huge fan of remixed tracks by legendary artists; I feel like they just shouldn’t be touched…especially when talking about the level of legendary that I consider Daft Punk. That said, I am straight up blown away by this track. Basic Physics somehow managed to take this 15 second ad from Saturday Night Live:

…and turn it into this full-blown progressive house anthem that feels like it could easily fit into any mainstage festival set. I’m kind of at a loss for words at the transformation so take a listen yourself and let us know what you think!

Basic Physics – Liftoff [Album Download]

Alex Syse, aka mashup artist, Basic Physics, has literally made one of the craziest albums I’ve heard so far this year. By combining his vast musical inventory and some beautiful creativity, Basic Physics manages to synthesize samples ranging in variety from producers like Avicii and Daft Punk (heavy influence in this album), to artists and groups like Usher, Jay-Z, and Breathe Carolina. He also manages to throw in a few lines from the movie, Inception, as well as Brian Wilson’s “I’m feeling like I wanna rage…” quote. This album is designed to get the party started and keep it going. It’s not rocket science (despite what the album cover might suggest)—head over to Basic Physics’s Facebook page to download Liftoff now! It’s free!

Brian Wilson sample: “Yeah It’s Aerodynamic”

Inception sample: “Don’t Lick the Rainbow”

Na Palm vs. Daft Punk – Solar Sailer (Pretty Lights Remix)

Got some Rap meets Techno for you CMB fans out there. Daft Punk made a great song called “Solar Sailer” (which was in Tron Legacy) and Pretty Lights decided to remix it. Then rapper Na Palm decided to rap over it for a really quality freestyle.

I have seen Na Palm twice live and both times was blown away by his stage presence. Say what you want about the guy, he really likes being on stage (oh, and both times I saw him he was wearing a shirt that says “All I do is fuck and party” which is a rage-tastic line).

This song is definitely worth a listen:

And here some other versions of this song that I talked about:
