Passion Pit – Carried Away (Tiesto Remix)

Passion-Pit-Carried-Away-Tiesto-Remix

So I really am not sure how this slipped through my grasp, considering trippy music videos and passion pit remixes are particular interests for me. It also helps that the person remixing the song is Tiesto

We have a remix of Passion Pit’s “Carried Away” off of Gossamer, an already good song, given that Tiesto magic. A really great song.

Also, the music video for it is ridiculous, with people basically multiplying themselves and tripping out. Pretty interesting. Definitely something to check out.

Greg Fingers’ Top 5 Songs of 2012

Well it’s that time of year again folks, time to look back at the year in music. All Catch My Bass writers have decided to their own top 5 song list, and I’m gonna start it off. This year was a real transformation for me, moving away from listening to mostly Rock and moving into the R&B and EDM scene. Some are more popular in my mind because of personal responses, but these are my favorites of the year nonetheless:

5. “Take a Walk” – Passion Pit

Gossamer was in my mind one of the best albums of 2012. Passion Pit just evokes such positive emotions with their music and ‘Take a Walk’ is no exception. Just such an upbeat and funky song that reminds me of just good times. Album after album, Passion Pit delivers.

4. “Thinkin’ About you” – Frank Ocean:

Catch My Bass was not the only music blog that has followed the rise of Frank Ocean after releasing his album Channel ORANGE. This is an absolutely beautiful track and one that has gotten into the mainstream, and rightly so. 2012 has been a good year for the R&B scene, mostly because of the prowess of Frank Ocean.

3. “Some Nights” – fun.:

Without sounding like a hipster, I have been on the fun. train for a long, long time, actually seeing their very first show as a band ever in 2008 when they opened up for Jack’s Mannequin and I’m a big fan of Nate Reuss, who also was the lead singer for The Format. They really blew up this year with their album ‘Some Nights’ specifically with this song and the summer smash “We are Young”.

2. Of Monsters and Men – “Little Talks”

This song was arguably the best song on the alternative charts in 2012. Of Monsters and Men absolutely exploded on the scene with their debut album My Hand is an Animal and may have taken the title of best Icelandic band from Sigur Ros. This was an absolute anthem of my summer, and I know I’m not the only one.

1. Dash Berlin feat Jonathon Mendelsohn – “Better Half of Me”

2012 marked a real personal growth for me in my music taste and for me 2012 was really the year of Trance. I was not a big fan before this year, but I absolutely fell in love with the style of music, and “Better Half of Me” had phenomenal vocals and amazing production, with numerous mixes floating around. Seeing this song live along with the live vocals by Mendelsohn really was the top musical moment of 2012 for me and probably my life up to this point. While the other 4 songs on this list are definitely more popular in the mainstream, this one was the best song by far for me.

“Take a Walk” (The Highweights Remix) – Passion Pit

So I have been posting a few remixes by Passion Pit lately (namely “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons and “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men). After Passion Pit’s commercially successful album Gossamer came out, some people have been remixing their stuff.

A really good remix I found was a remix of their song “Take a Walk” by The Highweights. This song was one of the most upbeat on the album, and the remix turns it into a dance techno remix giving it a whole new spin. Definitely worth a listen.

Oh and as a little bonus for you check out Passion Pit’s Video for this song which I’m a big fan of:

Imagine Dragons – “It’s Time” (Passion Pit Remix)

Passion Pit is one of those groups that can seemingly do not wrong right now. I mean they just released a great album in Gossamer, are in the midst of a great tour with some major international locations, and they still find time on the side to remix songs that they like. They like to promote other indie artists through their remixes. We previously featured their remix of Of Monsters and Men’s “Little Talks” and this time we got their remix of “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons.

What makes Passion Pit’s remixes so good is that they really do not change the overall feel of the songs in any way or take away from the specific songs. They simply put their own personal flair on it and make it a song of their own.

Also, to do a little more research on Imagine Dragons, I got their new album Night Visions and was honestly blown away. Although I personally have gotten away from it recently, I grew up on indie rock and always have had a special place in my heart for it. And this album reminded me why I love it so much. Just such a unique blending of sounds and such variety that only a band who is doing it for love can do. The only song I previously heard from them was the first track off of this album, “Radioactive”, which is the song in the commercial for the new NBC show Chicago Fire that I saw numerous times throughout the Olympics. Check it below if you haven’t seen it yet:

And here is the amazing remix: Give it a listen. Do yourself a favor and check out Imagine Dragon’s whole album too

There are many times when no name DJ’s take a very popular song and put their own spin to it. What makes this song amazing is that it is a titan in the alternative scene remixing recent star in the alternative scene. We have Passion Pit, fresh off of their album release, taking the single from Of Monsters and Men “Little Talks”.

This song obviously has Passion Pit’s overall feel, somewhat glitchy/trippy remixes over singing. They take the vocals from Of Monsters and Men and fit it perfectly into their song. Definitely something worth listening to.

Passion Pit – I’ll Be Alright

“I’ll Be Alright” is the second single off Passion Pit’s upcoming Gossamer album. It’s classic Passion Pit, complete with glitched beats, high-pitched vocals and a quick tempo. It’s a nice follow up to “Take A Walk” and has me wondering if ‘remaining stoic in the face of difficulties’ is going to be the common thread running through their next album. Given the precarious nature of the global economy and the hard financial times in which many have found themselves, such an album might be just what people need.
