The Drop Episode 50 Celebration (Guest Mixes from Leon Bolier, Lazy Rich, Maor Levi, Gabriel & Dresden)

For those of you unaware of the radio show called “The drop” I highly recommend you begin to tune into their weekly podcast. Every week, hosts mass7 (Matan Segal) and 15 Step (Brett Schupack) carefully and masterfully combine the hottest progressive, electro, dubstep, and house choons together for our listening pleasure while informing the Philly, dC, and NYC area of the latest shows, reviews, and latest news from the electronic music industry. I love the podcast and the effort the guys put into it and tune in as often as possible. MovinLikeCherny’s Top 5 of 2012

2012 has been a musical awakening for me in so many ways, being introduced to electronic dance music as well as finding a new found passion for the entire art form itself. It has allowed me to meet a multitude of incredible people as well as given me some of the best tracks that an iPod could ever ask for. I was able to attend a bunch of big and small concerts that I never would’ve been to before, as well as opened the doors to many festivals that I have begun to plan for 2013. These 5 tracks can truly define the type of year I had with music and after difficult deliberation I was able to come up with these as my favorite from 2012.

5. “Spectrum” – Zedd feat. Matthew Koma

Possibly one of the biggest breakthrough artists of the year, Zedd was put on the map with his incredible EP of Spectrum that was an anthem in thousands of sets around the globe. Incredible beautiful vocals driven by a crazy electro house drop that stuck with thousands!

4. “Original Don” – Major Lazer (Flosstradamus Remix)

This has to be one of the remixes that brought trap music to the forefront in a mainstream sense and one of the first trap songs I listened to myself. Flosstradamus killed Major Lazer’s Original Don, adding a grimey bassline that would literally get any party raging and had me shouting “RUN THE TRAP” whenever someone was changing a song at a party. Blast this and drop it loooow when we hit the trap.

3. “Arc” – Tritonal vs. Super8 and Tab

Trance has to be the genre that I can truly say I identify with entering into 2013. From countless podcasts and radio shows ranging from A State of Trance to Global DJ Broadcast, “Arc” has gotten a considerable amount of airwave time and for good reason. An incredible uplifting track that’ll bring a smile to anyone’s face guaranteed and one that I wasn’t able to get out of my head all year.

2. “The Veldt” – Deadmau5

Probably one of the most incredible DJ/Producers I’ve ever listened too (and the Dj I’m most excited to see at Ultra Music Festival 15) Deadmau5 has been killing the game for as long as I can remember. The Veldt evokes such raw emotion from anyone who hears it and truly had a special place in my heart from the second I heard it.

1. “Everyday” – Eric Prydz

Probably the production of the year in my opinion is “Everyday” by Eric Prydz. I have heard from multiple sources that the Roseland Ballroom performance may have been the performance of the year with production, sound, and atmosphere to be rivaled by nothing else. I truly hope that progressive house producers have taken what Pryda has done with this song and work to return to the roots of the genre creating unique and uplifting music that can be differentiated between.
