Sad Day for Daft Punk Fans: Romanthony, vocalist for “One More Time”, Dead at 45

Romanthony

The buzz around Daft Punk recently could not be any bigger. After the leak of Random Access Memories hit the internet, many were praising their new funky sound. Not only that, but Kanye West went on Saturday Night Live last night and and sang his new song “Black Skinhead” which was co-produced by Daft Punk. Today, one of the most important people in Daft Punk’s success has passed.

Romanthony, a American DJ, passed away today at the age of 43. Although he is not credited, he is the vocalist on Daft Punk’s most popular song “One More Time” from Discovery (he also did vocals for “Too Long”). Although the synthy vocals could have made it really anyone, he has a huge place in the history of Daft Punk and fans should take note.

Bon Iver – Woods (Zeds Dead Remix)

When you’re looking for quality dubstep, there’s really no one better than Zeds Dead. The Canadian Duo of Hooks and DC have been making beats since 2009. They are currently taking a break for touring, which is definitely warranted considering their The Living Dead Tour went across 70 cities in 84 days earlier this year.

They have taken a Bon Iver song and absolutely made it their own. This song “Woods” is also very popular because this song was remixed and rapped over in Kanye West’s song “Lost in the Woods” off of his latest solo album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. That song is what really introduced Bon Iver to the masses, although he has been a mainstay on the indie scene for awhile now.

This is one of the chillest dubstep remixes I’ve ever heard. To me it honestly feels like being in the woods just chilling out. I cannot say enough about this song really. Listen for yourself.

Frank Ocean – “Pyramids”

In the past week, Frank Ocean released a new song for download over his Tumblr account called “Pyramids”. This is the first song Ocean has released that will be on his upcoming album Channel Orange.

Ocean has been making major splashes recently and his schedule is only going to get busier. He started off his career being a ghost writer (writing songs officially credited to another person) for artists like Justin Bieber and Beyonce. He then became a part of OFWGKTA, which has received much notoriety in the past year or so. He made his biggest mark writing and being featured on a few tracks of Kanye West’s and Jay-Z’s album Watch the Throne.

In the coming months, Frank Ocean is planning on releasing Channel Orange, opening for Coldplay during some their shows in Europe in July and August, and writing with Nas for his 10th studio album, along with other projects with OFWGKTA. Needless to say, this is a name to keep a look out for.

As for the song itself, very smooth (as all of his songs are), with some pretty good synth beats underneath. It also is a long song (about 10 minutes) that tells a story, something Ocean has been known to do. However, it pretty much is split into two different parts. The first part is much slower and smoother than the other one. The second part has a really great beat which could definitely can have more commercial success. If the rest of his album is like this, it should be a hit.

Mac Miller Announces New EP with Pharrell and Releases First Single “Onaroll”

It has just recently been announced over Twitter that Mac Miller will be releasing a new EP entitled ‘Pink Slime’. What makes this even more intriguing is that this EP will be a joint venture with Pharrell.

Many people have been curious about how Mac Miller was going to follow up his album Blue Slide Park, which was the first independently-distributed album to debut #1 on the Billboard 200 since Tha Dogg Pounds’ Dogg Food in 1995. Although it had great commercial success, it was actually rated far worse critically than his mixtapes such as K.I.D.S. and Best Day Ever. He seems to be going through a musical transformation, doing much more psychedelic tracks on his mixtape Macadelic and going into a lot of tracks with deeper meaning.

He likely is once again trying to change his style by teaming up with established rapper and Producer Pharrell. He is a member of N.E.R.D. who has collaborated with artists from Kanye West to Madonna and has received grammys for his Production on tracks with Justin Timberlake. Needless to say, Pharrell has had some success, and Mac Miller must be wanting to get some magic out of him.

The first track off of this EP “Onaroll” seems to be pretty promising, with some good lines coming out of it. Be on the lookout for Mac Miller in the coming weeks.

Cassie – King of Hearts (R3hab remix) vs (Kanye West Remix)

Here is a new song from Cassie, who used to be really hot before she did some weird shit to her hair. Anyways, even though everyone says that she just sings songs that weren’t good enough for Rhianna, I think this one is pretty good, and the two remixes make it better. So check out the R3hab remix, which has an actual video, and also the Kanye remix, which doesnt. And then download them both below and rock out

Might as well throw in the original video too. I must say, she rocks skrillex hair pretty well
