Catch My Bass was there when Kaskade rolled into Philly for his Freaks Of Nature tour. The line up included Kap Slap, FareOh, Alvin Risk, and of course Kaskade. I showed up a little late for the show mainly because the start time on the ticket and the actual start time was off by an hour so I ended up missing Kap Slap and FareOh, but I did make perfect timing to see Alvin Risk.
Alvin Risk adding his own vocals during his set!
Now I have listened to a few of Alvin Risk’s song and have always been of fan of his crazy drops, but I could not believe the set he put on at Festival Pier. He started off as the sun was setting in Philly, rocking the stars and stripes on his jacket, and by the time the sun was down the crowd was out of control. He played an array of tracks from his amazing “Eyes” remix to an insane remix of the theme song of the Legend of Zelda. His visuals were not really anything crazy but he put on a hell of a show and even added his own live vocals at one point making his set that much better.
Right around 10pm the only thing on stage was a curtain with the silhouette of Kaskade’s signature Butterfly. The crowd was chanting “KASADE!” Then the curtain dropped and the show begin with of course “Eyes.” Overall, I have to say Kaskade put on a great show with awesome extras like smoke machines, balloon and tons of confetti. I was kind of disappointed in his visual show mainly because I have seen Deadmau5 and Skrillex live and their stages visuals are mind blowing. However, Kaskades extra effects made up for it. The one thing that really bothered me about his set was when he would play antidote from Swedish House Mafia or anything similar to that. Songs like that are played by every DJ on earth and did not make his set any better. Other than that, he played plenty of his signature tracks from his “Dynasty” album and played songs off his newer album, “Fire and Ice.” Best part of his set was when he remixed Alex Gaudino’s “I’m In Love.”

Philly knows how to RAGE!
To sum up, the whole show was unbelievable from the insane bassdrops of Alvin Risk to the bone chilling songs of Kaskade the night could not get much better. Living in Philadelphia, I have realized Philadelphia knows how to rage especially after the Freaks of Nature tour. One last note, Kaskade better step your game up because the originality of newer artists like Alvin Risk are giving you some competition. Don’t get me wrong, Kaskade was unbelievable, but the highlight of the night for me was Alvin Risk and I didn’t even expect it to be. If the Freak of Nature Tour is coming to a city near you I suggest going because its something special to see. #Rage
Below are the just a few of the videos from the night! Check out our Youtube page to see more!
If you haven’t downloaded Kap Slap’s Frequent Flyer mixtape, I highly recommend you do because it is absolutely amazing! Having dropped just 6 days ago, it is definitely something you want to add to your summertime playlist. Check out and download this amazing mixtape here!
Alright so this dude comes right outta Philly and in my opinion puts together some pretty dope mashups. The first track just blew me away and then the hits just kept coming after that. Definitely check this one out. Download, jam out and rage on my friends.
This past saturday night Alesso performed at a Drexel’s very own Armory, which was sold out (3000 tickets sold) and CMB (myself and Dr. Rage) was their to experience it! The show was put on by Pi Kappa Phi here at Drexel. It was a fundraiser benefit show for Push America, which is their national philanthropy.
The lineup for the night was (in order of appearance): Zenbi, Dubsef, Kap Slap, LA Riots and finally Alesso. It was very surprising to see how well they transformed the armory here at Drexel into a concert venue. They had a full-sized stage with all the lighting you could ever imagine.
Before I get into what I thought of Alesso, I do want to talk about some of the opening acts I saw. First, Kap Slap the mashup DJ came on and I was expecting the crowd to go crazy for him, but I was surprised to see the lack of excitement in the crowd. I guess people did not know of Kap Slap like I thought. He put on a pretty descent performance, however couple of times he would come out in front of the stage to try and pump up the crowd and didn’t really do a great job. He did play all of his hit mash ups and I personally enjoyed him.
Next, their was the LA Riots, now I have seen his name at shows before but never really had a chance to see and listen to him so I did not really know what to expect. I was very surprised by his performance. LA Riots did a great job of get the crowd pumped for Alesso and overall the set was pretty well done.
Finally, at about 11pm Alesso came on and the crowd went crazy. His set was pretty unreal playing all different tracks and different remixes. You could definitely tell this young Swede is going to be a pretty big DJ in the EDM scene very soon, if he isn’t considered one already! I was surprised he put on a full 2hr set and went right till 1am. He evened dropped his new vocal mix to “Calling” called “Lose My Mind” (video below) My personal favorite part of his set, which I really think changed the feel of the crowd, was when he dropped “Strobe” by Deadmau5 (video below). It brought the show to another level. Overall, I have to say Alesso did a fantastic job. One last note, just want to say Pi Kapp of Drexel did an incredible job and I hope they raised plenty of money for such a good cause. If you would like to make a donation to Pi Kappa Phi’s philanthropy “Push America” here is the link to donate:
So this might be a little premature considering we still have snow on the ground here in Bethlehem. Well, the valley native comes to you with an hour long spring break jam. Definitely worth checking out for all you CMB bros.
