The Trance/Electro world is up in arms about a track by Will.I.Am featuring Chris Brown entitled “Let’s Go”. It seems that the first man to premiere a song from the surface of Mars wanted to use a sample from Mat Zo and Arty’s track “Rebound”.
Obviously this would be okay….had he asked, which he did not. According to Arty, neither he or Arjunabeats received any indication from Will.I.Am regarding the issue. Mat Zo has since deleted his twitter account in protest. DJ Eco of Above and Beyond posted on his Facebook in disgust. The entire Trance world is up in arms as they should be. Take a listen to both tracks and you’ll know why:
Obviously, one can understand why Will.I.Am would want to use this track. Electro is starting to creep into the rap world a little more than most people would like. It would be completely okay if he were to ask. This is copyright infringement at the highest level. The misconception with sampling is that you can use any other song you want. Maybe Will.I.Am thought that he was so big he would not get into trouble over this. The fact that this song is with an auto-tuned Chris Brown does not help his cause….at all. Overall this is another reason why copyright infringement should always be enforced to the highest level and make an example of “credible producers” like Will.I.Am
