Show Review: Knife Party at Pacha in NYC, NY – 3/15/13

IMG_3233So this was my first time seeing Knife Party live and I can tell you that if you have not seen them yet, then it is an absolute priority of yours to get to their next show. The absolute unreal ability the duo of Rob Swire & Gareth McGrillen have to mix the most incredible songs into a show is phenomenal. They have the ability to just whisk you away to far-off places with their music and then drop you down into a party of nothing but BASS. From their original tracks such as “Internet Friends” and “Centipede”  all the way to SHM – “Dont You Worry Child” and even Missy Elliot’s “Work It”!  They just have such a talent that comes with the experience behind their work that is unmatched. My favorite part of the night came is tied between the dropping of their remix of Porter Robinson’s “Unison” track (my favorite song) and when Gareth popped a bottle of champagne on the crowd JUST as “Internet Friends” dropped. UNREAL. The crowd was so insanely excited for them to come on and they definitely did not disappoint. I would even go as far to say they BLEW AWAY my expectations. Just massive. Easily cracking my top 5 favorite artists to see live. I literally CANNOT wait to see them again and I highly recommend ALL of you go check them out asap.

p.s. More Pictures & Videos to come ;) IMG_3234

Also BIG shout out to the people over at their PR department for giving us an opportunity to cover them!

Show Review: Excision with Paper Diamond & Vaski @ The Dome at Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT – 3/13/13

885661_493874853993886_1204847907_oSo last wednesday The Excecutioner Tour rolled through Wallingford, CT pumping nothing but EPIC bass. As the crowd poured into The Dome at Oakdale (An incredible venue for this type of show) you could feel like excitement in everyones voices. Everyone was ready for a heavy dose of bass.

885700_493803967334308_862971899_oFirst up in the lineup came Vaski, hailing out of Minnesota. I can tell you right now, if people didnt know him before, they know him now. His set was absolutely phenomenal, dropping tons of dubstep bangers including his own tracks in there as well. The crowd went absolutely wild when he dropped his Darude-”Sandstorm” Remix. It was absolutely epic and I can tell you right now, I’d love to see this dude come around here again on a headlining tour of his own because he certainly knows how to get a crowd amped.

885725_493807670667271_2068375878_oNext up came Paper Diamond hailing from Colorado. My dude knows how to mix INCREDIBLE tracks into every set and this was no exception. The crowd went wild as he dropped banger after banger. At this point the building had filled and people were here to party and Paper Diamond gave them the music needed to do just that. Bass to the face fa days. Definitely gonna have to check him out next time he comes around, definitely a solid act.

885706_493871320660906_2069355219_oThen entered the BASSmaster, Excision himself. This tour was advertised as providing us with over “100,000 Watts of Bone Crushing Bass” and I can promise you it was that and more. Never in my life have I been at a show where the drops were able to LITERALLY take my breath away. Absolutely incredible. The stage for this show was unreal, literally no words to describe how incredible it was. Moving perfectly to the bass and synth lines as they dropped, it provided for an all around insane show. I can’t tell you how many people I heard as I walked around saying, “This show is incredible”. One of my favorite parts of the show was when Excision dropped his “X-Rated” Remix, the crowd (myself included) went WILD as that bass drop hit. Absolutely incredible in every aspect. Excision has without a doubt set an incredible high bar when it comes to Bass filled shows such as this. DEFINITELY check him and the rest of the crew on the rest of the tour if you get a chance.

Event Review: Revolver & Tiesto After Party @ Starlight Ballroom 2/24

party

Last Saturday was a big night for Philly with Tiesto, Tommy Trash and Quintino bringing their college invasion tour to the Liacouras Center (which CMB was at). When it came to the end of the show people were looking for a place to continue the night till the early morning and Starlight Ballroom was the place to be. East Side Electro and World Town Party came together to put on an insane after party that had everyone dancing till the early morning.

We got to Starlight around 1:30 and were lucky enough to see Revolver still spinning and he blew us away. He did not disappoint and had everyone that came from Tiesto like it was their first show of the night. Revolver was then followed by Reusue, Ben Arsenal and So Serious. These DJ’s brought the deep house out and had people moving. Surprisingly this was my first time to Starlight Ballroom and this after party was the perfect way to continue the night on! Look out for more to come by East Side Electro.

Look out for upcoming events on their FACEBOOK!

Event Review: Generation Wild Tour with Deniz Koyu, Danny Avila, dBerrie, and Mikael Weermets- 2/8/13

Generation WildLast weekend a few of us here at CMB had the awesome opportunity to check out The Generation Wild Tour at Club Whim in Pittsburgh. I was looking forward to this show as soon as I found out about it and I was not disappointed. From hanging out in the DJ booth, meeting a super chill light technician named Kamil, to VIP with Deniz Koyu and Mikael Weermets themselves, and just raging with awesome friends (mad shouts to you all!) it was definitely a crazy night.

The night started out on a interesting note as we found out an hour before the show that our friend Sean Becker, also a junior at Pitt, was going to be playing an hour long opening set for these superstars. With only an hour to prepare, he calmly took the decks as the doors opened and began to unleash some deep house mayhem. The club began to fill up and the energy started to rise. Not one person in the building was standing still by the time dBerrie took over.

Luckily Sean recorded his set so check it out and download HERE! While you’re at it, take a look at his Soundcloud page and help get this guy’s name out there.

The next 2 sets are one big electro/progressive blur. dBerrie and Mikael Weermets dropped bomb after bomb as the crowd went more insane after every track. The blend of high energy electro drops and melodious techno and progressive were exactly what everyone wanted to hear…and it certainly showed.

Here’s a short video of Mikael Weermets blowing our eardrums with The Edge by Swanky Tunes and Hard Rock Sofa:

I can honestly say I didn’t know what to expect from Danny Avila…but good lord was I wrong. Easily my favorite set of the night, the Spanish phenom dropped everything from the Mikael Weermets Remix of hit his “Breaking Your Fall” to a sexy mashup of Madness and Numb that I was not expecting to hear at all.

The Breaking Your Fall Remix:

The Madness vs Numb mashup can be found at around 30 minutes in this mix:

It’s safe to say that the crowd was going insane by the time that Deniz Koyu came on, and although I will say that I was a little disappointed that he didn’t play “Follow You,” the man still absolutely killed it. I mean, when you open with a song like “Tung!” not much can go wrong after. As if that wasn’t enough, Koyu then proceed to play the Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike hit “Wakanda,” and before we even knew what was going on he had beautifully mixed right into “The Code” by Ummet Ozcan and W&W. Koyu’s set was the perfect way to end an incredible night, and quite honestly I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

Bassnectar @ Stage AE in Pittsburgh PA [REVIEW]

Bassnectar is a name that almost everyone immediately recognizes, regardless of age as one of the top dubstep producers in the game. He’s revolutionized the art, sampling with Ableton in a way that most DJ’s can only dream of being able to do, and on November 5th I was able to see just what kind of skill he possessed when he performed at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA. Opening for Bassnectar were the acts, Gladkill and Gramatik. I didn’t get to catch Gladkill but arrived just as Gramatik was taking the stage, with a glitch hop style that was complimented by an electric guitar with the riffs layering on top of the bassline in the background. I had never seen Stage AE as packed as it was before Bassnectar took the stage and turned off the noise restrictions allowing his bass to be as low and loud as he’d wanted. Playing many tracks off his “Freestyle Mixtape” he literally tore the stage apart, dropping bassbomb after bassbomb as well as featuring some classic old school rap vocals overtop his dubstep lines. Some of my favorite drops from the show had to be when he dropped into Jah No Partial – Flux Pavillion and Va va Voom his original. I could not even begin to describe the energy I felt watching the crowd explode as he played his Lights – Ellie Goulding remix and had everyone sing along. If you haven’t had a chance to see Bassnectar I highly recommend you check him out as soon as you can! Check out our facebook page to tag yourself in photos from Bassnectar!

Event Review: Datsik @ SoundGarden Hall, Philadelphia 11/2

When I say SoundGarden blew up last Friday, I’m not exaggerating it blew up with some serious bass brought by Terravita, Xkore and Datsik. Xkore was up first last Friday and was by no means just some lame opener. His set was insane from start to last and had the place going nuts well before Datsik was even going to take stage. The crazy part is xKore is only 18 years old and had SoundGarden going crazy to his set.

xKore getting the night going!

Next up on the night was the DJ trio, Terravita, comprised of Chris Barlow, Matt Simmers and Jon Spero. Teravita tore the place apart, and brought tons of energy to the crowd. With two of the Djing and one out front MCing/rapping they definitely brought tons of energy to SoundGarden that night. The crowd by the way was unreal. Most people still continued the Halloween celebrations with ridiculous costumes and freaky masks.

Terravita had the place going insane!

Datsik finally took stage around 12:30 that night and the second he got up to the DJ table everyone was going nuts at SoundGarden. He played a solid set with some of his crazy bass filled tracks like King Kong, and Swagga and even dropped some new tunes that blew me away with some serious drops. Some people may have been disappointed that he did not have the vortex that he usually has at his shows set up, but it was not needed. Datsik doesn’t need the crazy lights to put on a great show. The time he put into making his set was shown and he absolutely killed it.  To say the least, this was one of the best shows I have recently seen in awhile, and highly suggest to anyone that has the Firepower tour coming to an venue near them to definitely go! You will not be disappointed.  Check out more photos from the night on our Facebook Page and don’t forget to give us a like!

Datsik finishing off the night!

Show Review: Datsik’s Firepower Tour @ The Dome at Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT 9/7/12

Enter the Vortex. Last friday, myself and a friend had the esteemed pleasure of joining none other than Datsik and his bevy of bass heavy supporting acts for an incredible evening of dirty, dirty dubstep. I could feel the energy as soon as I walked into the venue. Everyone was so incredibly pumped for this show as the supporting acts took the stage to electrify the crowd in preparation for the star to come out. As the bass built up, the sheet covering a large object on stage dropped and we got our first glimpse of the one and only Vortex. Then you hear the beats begin and the lights start up as none other than Datsik takes the helm of this incredible show. He then proceeded to go OFF and blow us all away with so much incredible music, original as well as others. He dropped so much bass on the crowd, there was a point where it literally took our breaths away. The show altogether, lights, music, and showmanship just blew me away. It was an incredible experience that i’ll never forget. Definitely be sure to check this tour out as it continues. Also check out the photos below to get a better glimpse of the experience we call DATSIK.
